Beauty & personal care
Find skincare products
with a questionnaire or selfie.
For an international brand specialising in skin and body care, we helped UK customers find products suited to their skin. We led frontend development within an agency team, building a guided questionnaire and a selfie-based skin report that each led to personalised recommendations.

The brief
“Which products might suit my skin?”
The question behind the build.Help customers choose from the skincare range.
The client is an international brand specialising in skin and body care. For its UK audience, the project focused on helping customers choose from its skincare range. Someone looking for help with dry skin, for example, needed a useful starting point among the available products.
The brand wanted to use questions about skin type, concerns and preferences to suggest products from its range. Customers would have recommendations based on what they had shared about their skin.
The brief offered two ways to reach those suggestions. Customers could answer a step-by-step questionnaire, or skip it by taking and uploading a selfie. The photo route used an external analysis service to create a personal skin report, followed by recommended products.
The goal
Base recommendations on the customer’s skin.
Customers needed suggestions relevant to their skin without searching the whole catalogue themselves. The questions had to be easy to follow, with the answers informing the recommended products.
- Ask about the customer’s skin
- Ask about skin type, concerns and preferences through a clear sequence of questions.
- Let a selfie replace the survey
- Give customers a photo-based route to a personalised report and product suggestions, without completing the questionnaire.
- Show the recommended products
- Show product suggestions within the web app so customers could explore the recommendations.
Skip the questionnaire with a selfie.
Customers could take and upload a selfie instead of answering the questionnaire. The analysis returned a personalised skin report, with product recommendations presented at the end of the journey.

Our approach
Build the questions, photo upload and results.
We built the responsive frontend in Vue.js and connected it to external APIs. The work covered the steps from answering questions or uploading a photo through to seeing the recommendations.
Build a questionnaire that responds
The questions adapted to the customer’s skin type and previous answers. Those responses supplied the information used for product suggestions.
Turn a selfie into a report
Customers could take and upload a photo, replacing the full questionnaire. We connected the frontend to a third-party face analysis API and presented its findings as a personalised skin report.
Finish with relevant products
The analysis informed the report and the product recommendations that followed it. The questionnaire also ended with suggestions in the same web app.
Support different screens
The responsive frontend was built and tested across devices. The questionnaire, photo flow and results needed to remain usable as the available screen space changed.
The outcome
Two ways to get skincare recommendations.
The delivered web app gave customers two routes into the skincare range. They could answer questions about their skin or skip the survey by uploading a selfie. The photo journey brought the analysis together in a personal report and finished with product recommendations.
For the brand’s UK audience, the experience connected individual skin concerns with products from its skincare range. Our contribution combined lead frontend development with API integration, delivered as part of the agency team.
