Rare disease awareness website
We built a rare disease awareness website through an agency partner. Patients and carers can read about the condition and other people’s experiences, while healthcare professionals have a separate area.

The brief
An awareness campaign with personal stories to tell.
The campaign explains a rare disease through educational material and accounts from people living with it. It speaks to patients and their carers, as well as healthcare professionals.
An agency partner brought us in to develop the website. The pages had to accommodate detailed information and stories illustrated with photography.
The goal
Separate patient and professional information.
A patient reading about a condition has different questions from a healthcare professional. The site gives each audience its own starting page and a route to the material intended for them.
The patient section also gives space to everyday experiences. Readers can explore personal stories alongside the information about living with the condition.
- Choose an audience
- Give patients, carers and professionals a way into the appropriate section.
- Explore patient experiences
- Include personal accounts alongside the condition information.
Our approach
Build the campaign pages in WordPress.
We used WordPress to build the website, including the audience navigation and content pages. Our responsibility was the development work.
The information pages contain longer explanations, while the story pages combine personal accounts with photographs. We developed the page layouts for those different formats.
Audience navigation
Links between the patient and professional areas and their content sections.
Information and story pages
Pages for longer educational material and photographic patient stories.
The outcome
A working website for the awareness campaign.
The campaign can share its educational material and patient accounts through the completed website. Visitors choose the section relevant to them and read at their own pace.
